Abstract Funding Acknowledgements Type of funding sources: None. Introduction Aortic dilatation is most commonly associated with hypertension, bicuspid aortic valve and connective tissue diseases such as Marfan’s. It a precursor to life threatening complications rupture or dissection the aorta. The current ESC Guidelines recommend surgical intervention once diameter >50 mm in patients Marfan syndrome (Ic) >55 normal morphology (IIb). There currently lack literature on prevalence general even hospital population although there historical data suggesting incidence thoracic aneurysm be 5.9 cases per 100,000. Purpose aim investigate by echocardiography our which may help lay foundation for studies identify prognostic factors determine time intervention. Methods We carried out retrospective survey using digital echocardiogram archive electronic patient record system at hospital. This covered period between 1st October 2016 November 2018. For randomisation purposes, all transthoracic echocardiograms (TTE) performed every Thursday during this were included. All an echocardiographic report root ascending aorta enrolled. Other information including dimensions along demographics past medical history was collected. Results During 24-month period, we analysed total 3019 TTEs. 209 (6.9%) reported have dilatation. 137 (66%) male median age 67 years. mean height weight 169cm 80kg, respectively. A confirmed 10 (4.8%) patients. 132 (63%) had hypertension. On echocardiogram, 75 (36%) septal hypertrophy 26 (12.4%) dilated left ventricle. Conclusion Our findings are unique first time, knowledge, (6.9%). staggering 40-fold increase when compared aneurysm, likely end point Based figures, would least 400 year alone. cohort nearly three times higher than where it quoted 1-2%. study also emphasised established link hypertension increased frequency global (31%). Given devastating sequelae its population, will very important keep these under routine surveillance particularly those

Post-stenotic aortic dilatation

Aortic stenosis is the most common valvular heart disease affecting up to 4% of the elderly population. It can be associated with dilatation of the ascending aorta and subsequent dissection. Post-stenotic dilatation is seen in patients with AS and/or aortic regurgitation, patients with a haemodynamically normal bicuspid aortic valve and following aortic valve replacement. Controversy exists as ...

Aortic dilatation in bicuspid aortic valve disease.

Bicuspid aortic valve (BAV) is the most common congenital cardiac abnormality, occurring in 0.5%-1.4% of the population; this anomaly is sporadically transmitted genetically by an autosomaldominant pathway, with a 3:1 male predominance. BAV is clinically important, not only because of valve-related complications (valve dysfunction, infective endocarditis), but also because of its association wi...
